TOPEKA, Kan. (Legal Newsline) – U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., earned the right to run for a fourth term Tuesday, defeating his tea party challenger.
With 99 precincts reporting, Roberts captured 48 percent of the total vote, while Milton Wolf, a radiologist who consistently argued the incumbent was not conservative enough, received to 41 percent.
Following news of his victory, Roberts tweeted: “The results are in. We have won the 2014 Kansas primary election. Thanks so much to all of you for your vote and your hard work.”
Roberts will face Democrat Chad Taylor in the general election.
Taylor, the Shawnee County district attorney, captured 53 percent of the total vote to move past fellow Democrat Patrick Wiesner.
In state races, Republicans Gov. Sam Brownback and Secretary of State Kris Kobach secured wins against their primary rivals.
Brownback secured 63 percent of the vote to defeat Jennifer Winn, and Kobach landed 65 percent to beat Scott Morgan.
