California Attorney General Kamala Harris said on Monday that the closing of Corinthian College's campuses in the state is a positive move toward helping students who were deceived by the college recover. | California Attorney General

Corinthian College's announcement that it will close all of its California campuses is great news for students, California Attorney General Kamala Harris said on Monday, and that the college “continued to deceive its students to the end.”

“Closure of these campuses should help students get out from under the mountains of debt Corinthian imposed upon them through its lies,” Harris said. “Federal and state regulators rightly acted to prevent taxpayer dollars from flowing to Corinthian, which preyed on the educational dreams of vulnerable people such as low-income individuals, single mothers, and veterans by misleading students and investors about job-placement rates and course offerings.”

Harris' office filed a complaint against the college in 2013, alleging the institution targeted low-income and vulnerable prospective students by creating ads that misrepresented job-placement potential and the school's programs.

“My office will work closely with our state and federal partners to ensure that students get the relief they deserve, providing them with a new path to achieve their educational goals and rebuild their lives,” Harris said.

California students who attended the WyoTech, Everest or Heald campuses should visit www.oag.ca.gov/Corinthian to find more information on debt-relief eligibility and the status of their particular campus closure.
