TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi announced an agreement on Wednesday with three Fort Lauderdale-based providers of career, college and other educational services to resolve allegations of improper enrollment and marketing practices.
Under the terms of an assurance of voluntary compliance, Keiser University, Everglades University and Keiser Career College agreed to offer retraining to students at no cost. The agreement also includes provisions governing future marketing practices at Keiser and requires the school to reimburse Bondi's office for fees and attorney costs.
The schools will contribute $175,000 in attorney fees and costs and will donate $375,000 to a scholarship fund for former students if more than 25 percent of the total enrollees participate in the retraining.
Keiser University, Everglades University and Keiser Career College allegedly made certain misrepresentations, misleading statements, or otherwise omitted or failed to disclose information related to selling and marketing their schools and programs to potential students, allegedly violating the Florida Statues Section 501.201.
Bondi's office acknowledged that the respondents cooperated in the matter. Keiser University, Everglades University and Keiser Career College deny any wrongdoing as part of the agreement.
Students who attended the schools from Jan. 1, 2008, to the present who meet retraining eligibility requirements will receive information about their options during the next 60 days. The students will have until Jan. 31 to submit a retraining participation request.
