Waste Management to pay $100K in Wisconsin

Van Hollen

KENOSHA, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced on Monday that a civil environmental enforcement action against a landfill in Paris, Kenosha County, Wis., has been filed and resolved.

The civil environmental enforcement action against Pheasant Run Recycling & Disposal Facility, which is operated by Waste Management, arose from alleged landfill and air violations.

From fall 2008 through May 2009, the complaint alleges, Waste management did not cover 10 acres of waste at Pheasant Run as required by its permit. Additionally, from 2004 to 2005, Waste Management allegedly replaced two engines at the Pheasant Run Facility without a construction permit, which is required by the administrative code.

Waste Management agreed, under terms of the civil environmental enforcement action, to pay forfeitures and costs of $100,000 for its alleged violations.
