AG Conway trails Rand Paul in poll

Conway

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Legal Newsline) - Republican Senatorial candidate Rand Paul is leading his Democratic opponent, Jack Conway, according to the newest poll results.

A poll of the U.S. Senate race in Kentucky from Fox News shows Paul, an ophthalmologist and son of Republican Congressman and former presidential candidate Ron Paul, ahead of the Kentucky Attorney General 50 percent to 43 percent.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters -- the first Fox News poll of the race -- was conducted on Saturday using Rasmussen Reports' automated polling methods, according to Fox.

According to the news network, the poll results suggest voters still have some concerns about Paul.

In fact, according to the survey, 42 percent said they are "concerned" the conservative is "too extreme" and just 43 percent said Paul "shared their values."

Seventy-two percent of those polled also said they were either "dissatisfied" or "angry" about the way the federal government is working.

Seventy-six percent said President Barack Obama's efforts haven't made much of a difference or have hurt Kentucky's economy.

The survey also showed that 53 percent of those voters polled say Conway agrees with Obama on issues "too often." Only 26 percent said he agreed with the president "the right amount."

In regards to Paul, 48 percent of likely voters say they have a "favorable" view of him. Meanwhile, only 38 percent said the same of Conway.

Several recent polls -- including Rasmussen, Braun Research and Mason-Dixon -- show Paul with the lead over Conway.
