SACRAMENTO (Legal Newsline) - California Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown released a detailed new jobs plan over the weekend.
The plan, according to his Web site, calls for work training, increased educational funding and manufacturing jobs, reducing regulations and creating a "strike team" for job retention.
Earlier this year, Brown unveiled a clean energy jobs plan that called for 500,000 new jobs generated by renewable energy in the next decade. His most recent plan expands on that proposal.
The attorney general's plan comes months after his GOP challenger and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman released her own. Hers includes 17 different components, from tax cuts to regulatory reform. She says it will create 2 million new jobs by the end of her first term.
Brown, in his release Sunday, cited his accomplishments and touted his experience in producing jobs for California.
He said he created 1.9 million jobs, and "adopted the country's first appliance and building efficiency standards" that created an additional 1.5 million jobs.
"Most new jobs should and will be created in the private sector, but government can play an important role in establishing a favorable climate for job creation," Brown writes in his newest proposal.
He continues, "California is the preeminent leader in environmental and energy technology because early on we adopted policies and incentives that encouraged efficiency and renewable energy. It is absolutely imperative that we continue to lead and not back off these policies."
