FRANKFORT, Ky. (Legal Newsline) - Pharmaceutical manufacturer Amgen, Inc., is paying $2.4 million to settle its part Kentucky lawsuit that claims it ripped off the state's Medicaid program.
Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway made the announcement Wednesday. Amgen is just one of 48 companies charged in the suit and is alleged to have inflated average whole sale prices for prescription drugs when billing the state's Medicaid program.
"I am pleased that we were able to recover these funds for Kentucky taxpayers who are tired of some pharmaceutical companies that try to increase profits by gaming the system," Conway said. "I appreciate Amgen's cooperation in this investigation."
Previous settlements in the case netted $3 million from Bristol-Meyers Squibb Co. and $145,00 from Immunex Corp.
Previously, the state reached settlements with Immunex Corp. for $145,000 and Bristol-Meyers Squibb Co. for $3 million, according to Allison Martin, communication director for Conway's office, a report in Business First of Louisville.
Amgen manufactures Aranesp, Enbrel, EPOGEN, Kineret, Neulasta, NEUPOGEN and Sensipar.
