CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Legal Newsline) - A recent poll published in the State Journal shows West Virginia Attorney General candidate Dan Greear catching up to incumbent Darrell McGraw.
The Orion Strategies/West Virginia Wesleyan poll shows Dan Greear sitting at 41.5 percent of the vote and Darrell McGraw at 49 percent.
The 7-percent margin is a significant increase for the Republican candidate. Only three weeks ago, Greear trailed McGraw by 17 percentage points in a Mark Blankenship Enterprises poll taken Sept. 5-8.
The change in the polls came without any outside advertising, Greear said.
But Greear said the poll he most trusts is the positive response he hears while campaigning.
"While I believe this will be a close race, the momentum has shifted in the last few weeks in our favor," he said. "As more and more people begin paying attention to our race, the more our numbers are going to climb.
"People are sick and tired of Darrell McGraw and his antics and they are responding positively to our message of reform for the Office of Attorney General."
His campaign launched its first web ad last week and will start a new TV and radio campaign within days.
"Darrell's ads have been pure paranoia and an attempt to scare our senior into believing I won't protect them," Greear said. "Everyone can rest assured my office will vigorously defend our customer."
Greear said he plans to take his message of a positive change to even more voters to further close the gap.
"Darrell is quick to try to find a boogeyman in the business community and is trying to scare our seniors," he said. "The fact is people realize Darrell is bad for our state, bad for our business, and by defeating Darrell they can send a positive message across our country that West Virginia is truly open for business."
