NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - Following a court ruling that forces computer company Dell, Inc., to provide restitution to customers, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday asked those who qualify to sign up for payment.
He even created a website on which customers can submit complaints --www.nyagdell.com. Cuomo had alleged Dell engaged in deceptive and negligent business practices shortly after the Democrat took office in 2007.
"Huge companies like Dell cannot continue to walk all over their customers and get away with it," Cuomo said.
"All consumers who were left on hold for hours, promised 'onsite' repair service only to be pressured to take apart their computers themselves, and subjected to numerous other negligent and abusive practices should register their complaints at our website so we can ensure Dell is held accountable for its failed promises."
Albany County Supreme Court Justice Joseph Teresi wrote Tuesday that he agreed with Cuomo.
"Dell has engaged in repeated misleading, deceptive and unlawful business conduct, including false and deceptive advertising of financing promotions and the terms of warranties, fraudulent, misleading and deceptive practices in credit financing and failure to provide warranty service and rebates," Teresi said.
Teresi said Dell repeatedly failed to provide timely onsite repair, pressured consumers to remove the external computer casing of their computers and manipulate the parts inside, discouraged consumers from seeking technical support and failed to provide rebates promised to consumers.
