Kentucky AG race set

FRANKFORT, Ky. - With current Attorney General Greg Stumbo stepping down to pursue another office, Kentucky received its next two candidates for his spot Tuesday.

Louisville lawyer Jack Conway, a Republican, will face off against State Rep. Stan Lee, a Democrat, in November's general election. Both won easily in their primaries, especially Conway.

Conway bested former assistant attorney general Robert Bullock, gaining 72 percent of the vote. Lee's 42 percent beat out his next closest competition, state prosecutor Tim Coleman, who received 31 percent.

Afterward, Lee called Conway "a big-city liberal," according to an Associated Press report. Conway returned the favor, saying the spot is "no place for a zealot."

Stumbo, who recently became the first attorney general to sue a major oil refinery for alleged price-gouging, is running for Lieutenant Governor.

Conway was defeated by Anne Northup in a close 2002 election for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Lee, meanwhile, will attempt to gain a spot that has been dominated by Democrats.
Both candidates acknowledged that they are a "stark contrast" to the

"I think the voters want a solid conservative who stands up for the ideas and ideals that they believe in, and they've seen me fight for these types of issues time and time again," Lee said.
