HARTFORD, Conn. - Claiming they violated state law by making telemarketing calls to individuals on the do-not-call list, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal filed suit Thursday against three companies.
He alleges that Tri-State Home Improvement of Branford, First National Mortgage Group of Orange and Craftmasters Windows and Siding of East Hartford continued calling even after they were told not to by consumers.
"What part of 'no' don't you understand?" Blumenthal said.
Sen. Thomas Colapietro authored the state law establishing the do-not-call list and joined in the announcement with Blumenthal, who filed the suit on behalf of the Department of Consumer Protection.
"We will fight intrusive, infuriating calls at home -- still all too common," Blumenthal said. "Consumers have legal rights to stop unsolicited telemarketing calls. Companies must be held accountable for flagrant, frequent violations of the state's telemarketing safeguards."
Blumenthal seeks up to $5,000 per violation in penalties, and "disgorgement of any ill-gotten gains." He also wants his legal expenses paid for.
The suits say Tri-State Home Improvement began making the calls around May 2002, and the other two companies started in 2004.
