WATERLOO, Iowa (Legal Newsline) - Only one week removed from the primary, U.S. Rep. and Senate-candidate Bruce Braley is trailing state Sen. Joni Ernst, a tea party favorite, by five points, according to a poll conducted by a new polling firm run by Republicans.
On June 3, Ernst, a Lt. Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard, captured 56 percent of the primary vote to overcome her male Republican rivals.
Braley, a plaintiffs lawyer by trade and former head of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association, was the only Democrat running for Iowa's open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Sen. Tom Harkin.
Before wining their respective nominations, Braley led Ernst by a 45-39 percent margin, according to a May 21 Public Policy Polling survey.
However, a poll released Monday shows voters favor Ernst over Braley by a 49-44 percent margin.
Vox Populi Polling conducted the survey of 667 likely Iowa voters between June 4-5. Vox Populi Polling is a firm made up of Republicans, including Mary Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney.
