Pa. AG files suit against home improvement businesses

Kane

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced a lawsuit on Wednesday against multiple Montgomery County home improvement businesses that allegedly entered into contracts with consumers but failed to perform the work.

Admiral Kitchens, doing business as Admiral Kitchens & Bath; JKMS Enterprises LLC; Renovay LLC, doing business as Renovay Kitchens, Baths & More; and Kenneth Staiger allegedly contracted with consumers to perform bathroom and kitchen renovations in consumers' homes but either performed the work in a substandard manner or failed to perform the work at all. They also allegedly failed to provide the required notice of cancellation form with their contracts.

The businesses allegedly made promises and assurances to consumers that their complaints would be satisfied and the issues remedied. The defendants then allegedly failed to remedy the issues or provide refunds to consumers.

Kane's lawsuits allege the defendants violated the Consumer Protection Law and the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act (HICPA). The suit seeks the payment of civil penalties of $1,000 per violation of the Consumer Protection Law and $3,000 for each violation involving a consumer age 60 or older. The lawsuit also requests that the court order the defendants to pay restitution, comply with state law and permanently refrain from doing business in the home improvement industry in Pennsylvania.
