LINCOLN, Neb. (Legal Newsline) - Nebraska voters are leaning toward electing another Republican as governor, a new poll shows.
A Rasmussen poll released Sunday shows Republican Pete Ricketts, who won his party's nomination by less than one percent on Tuesday, with a seven-point lead over Democrat challenger Chuck Hassebrook in the race for governor.
Nebraska voters favored Ricketts by 47 percent compared to Hassebrook's 40 percent. Five percent prefer some other candidate in the race. Eight percent of likely voters are undecided.
While Hassebrook ran unopposed in the primary, Ricketts had to overcome five primary opponents.
Ricketts, a financial executive and co-owner of the Chicago Cubs, ended up with 26.48 percent of the total vote on Tuesday. His closest opponent, Attorney General Jon Bruning, landed 25.49 percent, according to the Nebraska Office of Secretary of State.
Libertarian Mark Elworth Jr. is also a candidate for governor.
Nebraska's current governor, David Eugene, is term-limited from running for a third consecutive term.
Rasmussen Reports conducted the survey of 750 Likely Voters in Nebraska on Wednesday and Thursday.
