BOSTON (Legal Newsline) -- Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has obtained a consent judgment against the former treasurer of a Marlborough-based figure skating club, resolving allegations of misappropriating club funds for personal use.

Barry Eavzan allegedly violated Massachusetts public charities laws by authorizing expenditures unrelated to legitimate costs while serving as treasurer of the New England Figure Skating Club.

Between 1996 and 2007, Eavzan allegedly misappropriated tens of thousands of dollars of the charity's funds for personal use through checks made out to himself, ATM withdrawals and cash.

Eavzan allegedly used NEFSC funds to pay for his personal credit cards and a variety of personal expenses, including restaurant bills, groceries, limousine rides and lingerie.

"Misuse of charitable funds not only harms well intentioned organizations and their members, it undermines the public trust and good will of all charitable organizations," Coakley said Monday.

"Through this judgment, this defendant will be required to pay restitution to resolve allegations that he abused his authority by misappropriating tens of thousands of dollars of charitable funds for his own personal use."

Under the terms of a consent judgment, Eavzan must pay $50,000 in restitution and is prohibited from serving as a board member, employee or officer of any charity for 10 years.
