HOUSTON (Legal Newsline) - What do you do if your homeowner's insurance claim is denied? Well, a new website paid for by renowned hurricane lawyer Steve Mostyn says to contact an attorney.
The Mostyn Law Firm recently launched two new websites, BeforeTheClaim.com and AfterTheClaim.com, aimed at helping people better understand the homeowner's insurance claims process and what one should expect after the claim, according to a March 10 press release.
"With more than 80 million homeowners in America, it's pretty surprising how little people really know about homeowner's insurance," said Steve Mostyn, founder of the Mostyn Law Firm in Houston.
"By explaining the process in simple terms, we're hoping to help people make the long term decisions that best protect their homes and families."
Mostyn, the biggest political donor in Texas, made more than $150 million in attorneys fees in the wake of Hurricane Ike by filing thousands of lawsuits against the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association - the lone provider of windstorm insurance for Texas gulf coast residents.
Web surfers who visit AfterTheClaim.com are instructed to contact an "experienced insurance attorney" if their claim is denied.
In any given year, approximately seven percent of homeowner's will file a homeowner's insurance claim. Knowledge of the home insurance claims process before filing a claim can help save thousands of dollars if damage occurs later, the press release states.
"Homeowner's routinely pick homeowner's insurance with the lowest premiums," Mostyn said. "We need to change their thinking so they pick the policy that actually defends against disaster."
