HOUSTON (Legal Newsline) - Any Texas family on vacation knows one destination is always a must - the super-sized gas station Buc-ee's, home of the iconic billboard beaver Buc-ee, who is also apparently a Dan Patrick listener and fan - and no, not that Dan Patrick.
On March 9, Texas Sen. Dan Patrick, who will square off against incumbent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the May 27 Republican runoff, posted a picture on Facebook with him posing with the amiable beaver, saying he is "very proud to have the support of Buc-ee."
The Houston conservative radio jockey walloped Dewhurst in the March 4 primary, capturing 550,769 votes for 41.45 percent of the total vote - exceeding Dewhurst's 28.31 percent vote total. He shares a name with a popular sports talk radio host.
Since his victory, several Texas politicians have openly endorsed Patrick over the long-time incumbent, including state. Sen. Donna Campbell, who calls Patrick the "real-deal" and a conservative leader, according to a March 7 press release.
Campaign finance reports show Patrick spent more than $1.2 million in contributions in the weeks leading up to the primary.
However, Dewhurst spent nearly three times that amount, according to the Texas Ethics Commission.
