BALTIMORE (Legal Newsline) - Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler announced a settlement on Monday with a Pikesville-based home healthcare company to resolve allegations of Medicaid fraud.
A1 Reliable Medical & Healthcare Services Inc. allegedly submitted improper claims for payment to the Medicaid program. Reliable will pay $500,000 to the state to resolve the allegations.
"Companies providing health care services through the Medicaid program must follow strict rules to ensure taxpayer money is properly used," Gansler said. "When that doesn't happen, as in this case, it erodes public confidence in a system intended to help our most vulnerable citizens."
Reliable allegedly submitted claims to Medicaid for disposable medical supplies and durable medical equipment for which the company did not have a certification of continuous medical need or a prescriber's order or for which it did not obtain a proof of delivery.
Reliable also allegedly submitted claims for payment for home healthcare services that were required to be provided by individuals with certain professional licenses. Gansler's office alleged the individuals performing the services did not possess the required licenses.
