Ind. AG Zoeller amends complaint against contractor

INDIANAPOLIS (Legal Newsline) - Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller's office announced an amended complaint on Wednesday detailing additional allegations against an electrical contractor that allegedly misled consumers.

Indy Connection Electric Contractors Inc., doing business as Mister Quik Home Services, allegedly misrepresented the urgency of needed repairs to consumers and charged extremely high prices for the services. The amended complaint alleges additional deceptive acts including failing to retain replaced parts, misrepresenting to customers the need for repairs and failing to obtain or maintain licenses and permits.

Abigail Kuzma, the director and chief counsel of Zoeller's Consumer Protection Division, said Zoeller's office received additional information from consumers after initially filing a lawsuit against Mister Quik in January. She said protecting consumers is always a top priority of Zoeller's office.

According to the lawsuit, 14 consumers were told they needed to replace their entire electrical circuit panel when replacing an individual breaker would have solved the problem. Mister Quik also allegedly failed to maintain the required $25,000 surety bond with the state as a credit service organization when it helped at least eight consumers obtain financing for repairs and failed to retain replaced parts for at least 72 hours after a repair on 28 separate occasions.

The lawsuit seeks consumer restitution, injunctive relief, attorney costs and civil penalties. A hearing date has not been set to consider the matter.
