HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced on Tuesday that she is joining 18 other state attorneys general as part of an online safety campaign with the social networking site Facebook.
The coalition unveiled the initiative at the National Association of Attorneys Generals' Presidential Summit on Privacy in the Digital Age. The campaign provides parents and teenagers with resources and tips to better manage the information they share and who they share it with on the internet and Facebook.
Kane joined with Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg to tape a public service announcement called What Can You Do to Control Your Information. Kane and Sandberg used the announcement to address chief concerns about general internet safety, privacy and bullying prevention.
"We need to make sure that the internet is a safe and secure environment for everyone," Kane said. "That it's a community build on trust, accountability and respect. Without these things, we lose the promise of the internet. Just as we must address bullying, harmful content in our schools and in our neighborhoods, we must address them online. That's why I'm thrilled to join with Facebook in this consumer education campaign around safety and privacy."
While the campaign targets young people, the online privacy resources provided by the campaign may be utilized by all consumers. The campaign includes a privacy tip sheet and a video series in which Facebook employees will answer user questions.
