JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced a settlement Monday with a Jackson County home health company that allegedly billed Missouri Medicaid for services it never provided.
Kono Care Services LLC and Yahaya Kono Garba, the company's owner and operator, allegedly billed Medicaid repeatedly for health care services during times its clients were in the hospital.
"Medicaid relies on companies like Kono Care Services to supervise and ensure Medicaid services are delivered as promised," Koster said. "In this case, the company failed to carry out its duties. I am committed to holding companies responsible for doing what Medicaid pays them to do - making sure that services are properly provided."
Under the terms of the settlement, Kono Care Services must pay $23,108 in penalties, damages and attorney costs, including more than $3,500 in restitution. Garba also agreed to forfeit Kono Care Services' Medicaid provider numbers. The company will be excluded from any future participation as a provider for Missouri Medicaid.
On Thursday, Koster announced another Medicaid settlement with a home health provider. The St. Louis-based Infiniti Home Care Inc. allegedly billed Medicaid for services it did not provide. Under the terms of the settlement, Infiniti will pay $174,504 to the MO HealthNet Fraud Reimbursement Fund.
