Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine sued Mold Foundation Specialist, LLC on Tuesday over allegations the company failed to provide promised services to customers.
Owner Scott Stidham allegedly made claims about the company's services in advertisements, then failed to deliver those promises. He allegedly would advertise on the Internet that he was registered with the Environmental Protection Agency, and provided child- and pet-friendly solutions. He also claimed he was a certified mold worker, as well as a certified water expert, but when asked by the attorney general's office to provide evidence of the certifications he allegedly couldn’t back up those claims.
He also allegedly would accept deposits from customers, but did not deliver the promised services and would not provide refunds. Twelve customers complained to DeWine's office about the company. Their losses were approximately $28,000.
“Consumers deserve to get what they pay for,” DeWine said. “In this case, consumers paid hundreds or thousands of dollars for work that was incomplete or shoddy. Our goal is to put an end to the unfair business practices and to recover money for consumers.”
In addition to restitution to the affected customers, DeWine's suit seeks penalties and an end to the alleged deceptive business practices.
