A Los Angeles man sued the New York Film Academy on Thursday over allegations that the school failed to provide classes for an advertised program.

Gonzalo Digenio filed the lawsuit in the Superior Court of the State of California alleging the school did not fulfill its obligations of providing a cinematography program.

Digenio claims the academy advertised its cinematography class, and that popular film actors and filmmakers went to the school.

Digenio enrolled in the academy in January 2011, and by December of that year the academy negotiated with him to alter his curriculum and allegedly provided fewer credit hours than initially promised, the lawsuit states.

He claimed by the summer of 2012 he was missing credits for his third semester, but the academy told him the fourth semester had already started. Digenio eventually withdrew from the school and opened a small film production studio.

Digenio contracted with several academy students, but alleges the academy interfered with the production studio's business by discouraging and possibly prohibiting the students from working at the studio.

Digenio is seeking compensatory damages and restitution for the tuition money he spent on the classes. He is being represented by Christopher H. Knauf, of Knauf Associates in Santa Monica, California.
