Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie Jr. has recognized the contributions of law enforcement during National Police Week, which is observed from May 11 to May 17, 2025. In his statement, Moultrie acknowledged the risks officers take to protect communities and expressed gratitude for their service.

“Law enforcement officers faithfully and selflessly help to protect our families, friends, and neighbors while risking their own lives to safeguard the public,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie Jr. “We owe these men and women our gratitude and support for the dedication and bravery they display each day, often through unpublicized altruistic acts of service to the community.”

National Police Week was first proclaimed by former President John F. Kennedy in 1962 as a time to honor law enforcement officers' sacrifices and service.

According to a report by the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, 148 officers died in the line of duty in 2024. The Northern District of Georgia commemorates seven officers who lost their lives within the past year:

- Deputy Sheriff Brandon Tyler Cunningham from Paulding County Sheriff's Office

- Investigator Taylor Jaimeson Bristow from Carroll County Sheriff's Office

- Deputy Sheriff Eric Anthony Minix from Coweta County Sheriff's Office

- Trooper Jimmy Cenescar from Georgia State Patrol

- Police Officer Jeremy R. Labonte from Roswell Police Department

- Trooper First Class Chase Winston Redner from Georgia State Patrol

- Captain Helio Armando Garcia III from South Fulton Police Department

The National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund will host its Annual Candlelight Vigil on May 13 at 8 PM in Washington D.C., honoring those who have died in service.
