The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has reported that Jerry Wayne Shomo, a resident of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge. Shomo, also known as Jerry Wayne Shomo, Jr., is 47 years old and faces one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm. This offense carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Shomo was indicted for knowingly possessing a DSP Armory Model DSP-15 multi-caliber semi-automatic rifle on December 9, 2024. This possession occurred after he had been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Shomo's guilty plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The court has ordered the preparation of a presentence investigation report.

A U.S. District Court Judge will later decide on Shomo's sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal considerations.

Until sentencing occurs, Shomo will remain under the custody of the United States Marshals Service.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia P. Staubus on behalf of the United States government.
