Today, U.S. District Judge Julie R. Rubin sentenced William Joseph Murrow, aged 43 and formerly of Frederick County, Maryland, to a prison term of 25 years for the sexual exploitation of a child. Following his incarceration, Murrow is required to register as a sex offender for life and will undergo 20 years of supervised release.

The sentence was announced by Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, alongside Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno from the FBI's Baltimore Field Office; J. Charles Smith, State’s Attorney for Frederick County; and Chief Jason Lando from the Frederick Police Department.

Court documents reveal that Murrow engaged in sexual abuse and exploitation by soliciting images and performing sexual acts with a minor over an 18-month period. The abuse was discovered when the child's mother reported it to law enforcement authorities.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to locate offenders and assist victims. More details on Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.justice.gov/psc under the "Resources" section for Internet safety education.

U.S. Attorney Hayes praised the investigative work conducted by the FBI, Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office, Frederick Police Department, and Brunswick Police Department. Recognition was also given to Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Elizabeth McGuinn and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joyce R. King for prosecuting the case federally.
