Yesterday, Damon Bentley, a 27-year-old resident of Detroit, was arraigned in the 36th District Court. The charges are related to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man from Westland. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that Bentley faces one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felony Firearm, and one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

The incident allegedly occurred on May 4, 2025. Bentley is accused of shooting and killing the victim outside the Grand Lofts apartment complex located in Southwest Detroit.

Attorney General Nessel commented on the case: “This senseless act of violence took a young man’s life, and my heart is with his family as they face this tragic loss. There is no place for this kind of violence in our communities, and my office will continue to hold offenders accountable.”

Bentley's next court appearance is scheduled for May 20 at the 36th District Court.

For all criminal proceedings, it is important to note that a criminal charge is merely an allegation. The defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The Department does not provide booking photos.
