U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk has sentenced Clayton Pierce Davis, a 39-year-old St. Louis resident, to nine years in prison for his involvement in a fatal shooting incident in 2023. Davis pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition last November.

The incident occurred on July 4, 2023, during a celebration in St. Louis. After attending an event, Davis and others went to a shop located at the intersection of Gravois Avenue and Chippewa Street in south St. Louis. An argument ensued, leading Davis to fire 12 shots from a handgun, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to his girlfriend. It was noted that at least one victim was armed and the woman returned fire with one shot.

Davis's criminal history includes convictions for robbery, riot in a penal institution, dog fighting, stealing, and assault—making it illegal for him to possess firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department alongside the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Torrie Schneider handled the prosecution.
