A Guatemalan national has been sentenced in federal court in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. William Estuardo Rodriguez-Botello, 39, received a three-month prison sentence followed by one year of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani. He is subject to deportation upon completing his sentence.

Rodriguez-Botello pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien during the hearing. In February 2025, he was indicted by a federal grand jury.

Rodriguez-Botello first entered the United States illegally in 2005 and again in 2012 after being removed to Guatemala each time. After his 2012 removal, he returned illegally and was discovered on February 3, 2024, following an arrest by the Waltham Police Department for Operating Under the Influence Liquor (second offense). Although released from custody before immigration authorities could act, he was later encountered by immigration officials on February 4, 2025, after another arrest and release pending his case in Dedham District Court.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of Boston's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
