A Guatemalan national has been indicted in a federal court in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. William Noel Mazariegos Lopez, aged 43, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He was charged by criminal complaint on March 14, 2025, and is currently detained.
The charging documents state that Mazariegos Lopez entered the United States without inspection by an immigration officer at an unknown time and place. On October 24, 2012, he was convicted in the Lynn District Court for operating under the influence of liquor and violating compulsory insurance laws. Following this, immigration authorities initiated deportation proceedings against him on October 30, 2017, leading to his removal from the United States to Guatemala on November 29, 2017.
Despite his removal, Mazariegos Lopez reentered the United States at an unspecified date and location. He was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol on April 28, 2018, and subsequently removed to Guatemala again on May 7, 2018.
Once more entering the country without authorization at an unknown date and place, Mazariegos Lopez came to the attention of immigration authorities following his arrest by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department on August 15, 2021. On June 9, 2022, he faced convictions in Lynn District Court for multiple offenses related to operating under the influence of liquor and driving with a suspended license. His sentence included a suspended term with mandatory days to serve for each offense. A violation of probation was issued against him on December 22, 2023.
The charge of unlawful reentry carries potential penalties including up to twenty years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine reaching $250,000. Deportation will follow any imposed sentence completion as per legal guidelines governed by U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley along with Patricia H. Hyde from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin is handling prosecution duties.
