A Dominican national has been arrested in Boston on charges related to the transportation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Jorge Junior Alvarez Rodriguez, 21, faces one count of transporting child pornography and is scheduled for an initial appearance in federal court today.

According to charging documents, Alvarez was flagged for secondary screening upon his arrival at Boston's Logan Airport from Santo Domingo. During a review of his cell phone, files depicting CSAM were allegedly discovered. Authorities claim these files include images of children as young as four to seven years old.

The charge carries a potential sentence ranging from five to 20 years in prison, with supervised release lasting from five years up to life, and a fine that could reach $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England, announced the arrest. Customs and Border Patrol's Boston Division provided valuable assistance in the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard is prosecuting.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project aims to locate and prosecute offenders while rescuing victims through collaboration among federal, state, and local resources.

The allegations detailed in the charging documents remain unproven until established beyond reasonable doubt in court.
