Attorney General Ken Paxton has sent a letter to U.S. Senate leaders, advocating for the confirmation of Ed Martin as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Martin was nominated by President Trump.
Martin's qualifications and background have been highlighted, alongside his commitment to upholding the rule of law. Since taking on the role of interim U.S. Attorney on January 20, he has increased prosecutions related to firearm trafficking, drug distribution, and violent offenses. According to the Indiana-led letter, these efforts have contributed to a 25 percent reduction in violent crime in Washington D.C.
The letter also criticizes what it describes as the "blatant weaponization of government" under the previous administration in the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office and urges the Senate to dismiss any attacks against Martin's nomination.
Attorney General Paxton stated, “Ed Martin is a principled conservative who is committed to keeping D.C. safe, protecting the rule of law, and prosecuting violent criminals.” He further expressed his support for Martin’s confirmation: “I’m proud to stand with President Trump in supporting Ed Martin... it’s vital that the Senate confirm him as soon as possible.”
The letter concludes by urging swift confirmation of Ed Martin to continue efforts towards public safety in Washington D.C.
