During a recent week of enforcement operations, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced immigration-related criminal charges against 287 individuals. The operations occurred from April 26 through May 5, 2025. The charges include 107 cases of illegal re-entry and 156 cases of illegal entry into the United States. In addition, 21 cases were filed against 24 individuals responsible for smuggling operations involving illegal entry into Arizona.
The enforcement efforts were supported by several federal law enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, ICE Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
One notable case involved Krystal Lopez, apprehended on April 29, 2025, after a registration check linked her vehicle to alien smuggling. Border Patrol Agents found three individuals hiding in her vehicle. Lopez, previously arrested for similar charges, was detained pending trial.
In another case on April 29, 2025, Gloria Lopez Corona was caught attempting to smuggle a five-year-old child through the San Luis Port of Entry, presenting false documentation. Lopez Corona and the child's mother, Reyna Cecilia Hernandez Reyes, were charged following the incident.
On April 30, 2025, Carlos Murillo, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was charged after transporting an illegal alien. Murillo admitted to being recruited via Facebook for smuggling operations, expecting to receive $700 for his role.
According to the statement, "Criminal complaints and indictments are simply methods by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raise no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt."
These efforts are part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative focused on combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and criminal organizations. It utilizes resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
