Jerone D. Robinson, a 48-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been indicted on a federal firearms charge. This charge is part of the Make D.C. Safe Again initiative, which works to reduce violent crime in the area by prioritizing federal firearms violations. The indictment announcement came from U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., Special Agent in Charge Anthony Spotswood of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Robinson faces one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. The indictment stems from an incident on January 18, 2024. As detailed in court documents, Metropolitan Police Department officers were conducting patrols on Benning Road NE when they came across an unattended vehicle with its engine running. Inside the vehicle, they found Robinson, who was identified as the driver. Through the windshield, an officer spotted a firearm on the floorboard.

Robinson was detained without incident, and officers secured a loaded, Glock-style semi-automatic handgun from his vehicle. A Styrofoam cup with a yellow liquid, emitting an odor of alcohol, was also found in the center console. Upon questioning, Robinson admitted it was "a mixed drink." Subsequently, he was arrested and taken to the Fifth District Station.

Further investigation revealed that Robinson had no legal registration for the firearm, lacked a license to carry, and was prohibited from owning a firearm due to a previous felony conviction. The case is being handled by the ATF Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven B. Wasserman prosecuting.

As is standard with indictments, this charge is an allegation. Robinson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
