Victor Blanco, a former inmate at the United States Penitentiary Canaan in Waymart, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison. The sentencing was delivered by Senior United States District Judge Robert D. Mariani for Blanco's role in an assault of another inmate, using a dangerous weapon.
The incident involved Blanco stabbing a fellow inmate with a sharpened piece of metal equipped with a bed sheet handle. The attack occurred in the outdoor recreation yard of USP-Canaan. Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus confirmed Blanco's guilt was determined in a bench trial. Blanco's co-defendant, Isaac Carreno, previously received a 31-month sentence after entering a guilty plea for the same offense.
The case was jointly investigated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys James Buchanan and Gerard Donahue.
