A Billings woman has been sentenced to four years in prison followed by four years of supervised release. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme. Ali Sage Hausmann, 26, entered a guilty plea in October 2024 to charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and making false statements during a firearm purchase transaction.

The sentencing was overseen by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters. According to court records, in 2022, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) began an investigation into Hausmann. She was accused of buying a gun used by a juvenile in a home invasion. The incident occurred on May 9, 2022, when two teenagers burglarized a home in Billings, with one of them carrying a Beretta pistol. The ATF discovered that Hausmann had purchased the gun on May 8, 2022, from Scheels in Billings. The juvenile involved in the incident confirmed this information during a law enforcement interview. Hausmann later pawned the firearm about two weeks after the burglary.

The investigation into the firearm purchase extended to Hausmann’s social media activity. A search warrant for her Facebook account revealed her involvement in selling methamphetamine. Agents found communications proving that she purchased the firearm for the juvenile. Law enforcement executed a search of Hausmann’s residence on December 7, 2022, finding 6.9 grams of methamphetamine along with another firearm in her possession. Hausmann admitted to selling methamphetamine and buying the gun for the juvenile.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Patten. The ATF and the Billings Police Department carried out the investigation. This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by uniting law enforcement and local communities. The program's focus includes fostering community trust, supporting violence-prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
