United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has appointed Assistant United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. as Interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. Gorgon was formally sworn in by Chief United States District Court Judge Sean F. Cox.
In his new role, Gorgon will serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer and will represent the United States in all federal criminal and civil litigation within the Eastern District of Michigan. This district covers an area serving 6.5 million residents. Gorgon will lead a team comprising approximately 190 prosecutors, civil litigators, and support staff.
Gorgon has a long-standing career as a federal prosecutor in Detroit, serving for 15 years and handling cases related to terrorism, violent crime, sex trafficking, carjacking, and immigration. He is a native of southwest Detroit and an alumnus of Southwestern High School. Gorgon attended the University of Michigan and returned to Detroit to teach elementary science in the Detroit Public Schools. He later graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and went on to clerk for prominent judges such as the Honorable Anna Diggs Taylor at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Honorable Damon J. Keith at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Gorgon was a partner at Honigman LLP before resuming his public service career at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit.
