Deionta Person, a resident of Washington D.C., has been sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon. This decision was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., alongside other leading figures such as Special Agent Sean Ryan of the FBI Washington Field Office, Chief Jessica M. E. Taylor of the United States Park Police, and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Person admitted guilt on January 15, 2025, for unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition. In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Court Judge Randolph D. Moss imposed a three-year supervised release period.

Court records reveal that on September 5, 2021, officers from the United States Park Police observed Person and three others departing a vehicle near an apartment complex on Douglass Place, SE. Upon the officers' intervention, Person fled, discarding a black Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun loaded with 21 rounds, which was later retrieved by authorities.

Further incidents include a December 1, 2023, encounter where officers of the Metropolitan Police Department saw Person in a parked vehicle, leading to him fleeing and discarding a modified Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun.

In the past, Person had been convicted for robbery in June 2018, in Prince George’s County, Maryland, resulting in a 15-year sentence with 12 years suspended.

U.S. Park Police and the Metropolitan Police Department, with the FBI's assistance, conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared English led the prosecution, with aid from former Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Song.
