On April 29, 2025, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma reported the sentencing of Brett Wayne Pigeon, a 45-year-old resident of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He received a total prison sentence of 246 months for charges related to voluntary manslaughter and firearms offenses, specifically for one count of Voluntary Manslaughter in Indian Country resulting in a 126-month sentence, and one count for Using, Carrying, Brandishing, and Discharging a Firearm in Relation to a Crime of Violence, resulting in a 120-month sentence. These terms will be served consecutively.
The case was investigated by multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Okmulgee Police Department, and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police Department. Brett Wayne Pigeon pleaded guilty to the charges on January 6, 2025. Investigators reported that on November 27, 2023, law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire and found the victim deceased with gunshot wounds. Pigeon was identified as the suspect and confessed to shooting the victim with a 12-gauge shotgun. The incident took place in Okmulgee County on the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun-related violence. Launched on May 26, 2021, its approach includes enhancing trust and legitimacy within communities, supporting preventative community-based programs, focusing on strategic enforcement, and evaluating outcomes.
The sentencing hearing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Pigeon will stay under the care of the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility for his non-paroleable sentence.
