Adair County resident pleads guilty to federal firearm offense

Muskogee, Oklahoma – The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma reported that Jimmy Darrell Porter Jr., 40, of Westville, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to a federal firearm crime. Porter admitted guilt to one count of using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during and related to a crime of violence. The charge entails a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $250,000.

The indictment stated that the criminal conduct occurred on August 4, 2024. Porter's actions were investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, and the Westville Police Department.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. He has directed that a presentence investigation report be completed. The sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge, who will take into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant statutory factors.

Porter is currently held in custody by the United States Marshals Service while awaiting sentencing. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly.
