A man has been sentenced to over two months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States following his deportation. Jose Solis-Alvarado, 34, from Traer, Iowa, and a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty on March 10, 2025, to the charge of illegal reentry.
During his plea, Solis-Alvarado confessed to reentering the U.S. without permission after previously being deported in 2010. On February 4, 2025, immigration officials discovered his illegal return while he was held at Benton County Jail on state charges regarding operating a vehicle under the influence.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Solis-Alvarado in Cedar Rapids to 85 days in prison. After serving his sentence, he'll undergo a one-year supervised release. The federal prison system allows no parole for such offenses.
Currently, Solis-Alvarado remains in the custody of the United States Marshal, awaiting transfer to immigration officials. The case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep, following an investigation by the Enforcement and Removal Operations branch of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
