A Honduran national, Bryan Javier Perez-Espinoza, has been indicted for the reentry of a removed alien. The indictment was announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson on April 24, 2025. Perez-Espinoza, who is 33 years old, was previously deported to Honduras on September 30, 2022, but was found in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, on March 23, 2024.

If he is convicted, Perez-Espinoza faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison. He could also face a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Simpson emphasized that the indictment is merely a charge and that the defendant's guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. He commended the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for their investigative work on the case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit.

This case is part of "Operation Take Back America," which is a nationwide effort by the Department of Justice. The initiative works to tackle illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime. It involves the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
