Postal employee admits to mail destruction charges

A postal employee from Houma, Louisiana, has pleaded guilty to the destruction of U.S. mail. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Jorry Harrison, aged 38, admitted guilt on April 24, 2025, to charges under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703(a).

Court documents revealed that Harrison, while working as a Postal Service employee, unlawfully opened packages intended for mail conveyance. This offense occurred around October 25, 2023, when Harrison operated a Small Parcel and Bundle Sorter.

Harrison's sentencing is scheduled for July 31, 2025. He could face a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Christine Calogero and Duane A. Evans from the General Crimes Unit are overseeing the prosecution.
