Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced a victory for local farmers and drivers with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now permitting the sale of E15 gasoline year-round. This change comes ahead of the summer driving season and allows for a more affordable, clean-burning fuel option.
"For years, we demanded that the Biden Administration follow the law and take action. It turns out we didn’t need a new EPA—we just needed a new president," stated Attorney General Bailey. "President Trump is delivering results that Biden’s EPA sat on for years. Missourians deserve affordable, clean-burning fuel, and I’m proud to say we got it done."
In early 2023, Bailey, alongside six other attorneys general, pressed the EPA to comply with the Clean Air Act regarding summer E15 sales. Despite the legal obligation to respond within 90 days, the Biden Administration did not. Missouri continued its efforts until an executive order from President Trump declared a national energy emergency, leading the EPA to issue a waiver authorizing summer E15 sales.
The EPA's actions also included waiving certain outdated fuel regulations affecting E10 sales in Missouri and other Midwest states. This decision provides equal treatment for all ethanol blends under the law. E15 is known for being a cleaner, cost-efficient fuel that reduces prices at the pump, elevates demand for Missouri-grown corn, and enhances U.S. energy independence.
"This is the result of sustained legal pressure, lawful demands, and a president who listens," Bailey said. "The people of Missouri asked for action, and they are finally getting it. My office will always fight to ensure the law is followed and Missourians come first."
