OLYMPIA — April 24, 2025, marks Worker Memorial Day, a day to honor workers across the United States who have died or sustained injuries on the job over the past year. Washington State’s Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) will be commemorating the day, acknowledging the loss of 97 workers in the state.

"Washington workers dying from job-related injuries and illnesses is a deep loss to our entire community. State governments have an important role to play in protecting worker health and safety," stated Attorney General Nick Brown. "The Attorney General’s Office is committed to working with labor, business, and other areas of government to prevent workplace deaths, injuries and disease. We are proud to represent, advise, and partner with L&I in its mission to ‘Keep Washington Safe and Working.’"

The Labor & Industries Division within the Attorney General’s Office collaborates with L&I to address worker safety and health concerns. The Environmental Protection Division prosecutes environmental crimes, which also contributes to safeguarding worker health.

The Office of the Attorney General of Washington serves as the state’s most extensive legal firm, providing legal counsel to all state agencies and representing the interests of the public by enforcing various laws. These include consumer protection, civil rights, and environmental protection. Additionally, the Office prosecutes cases involving elder abuse and Medicaid fraud.
