A Brockton man linked to a violent Boston gang has been sentenced for his involvement in drug trafficking and firearms offenses. Steve Depina, 38, was sentenced to 66 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release by U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young. In October 2024, Depina pleaded guilty to charges of distributing cocaine and cocaine base, along with felonious possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Depina was identified as an older associate of Cameron Street, a notorious gang primarily operating in Boston's Dorchester section. The gang is known for using violence and threats to enhance its reputation and territorial control.

According to the investigation, law enforcement recorded Depina in February 2022 selling approximately 58 grams of cocaine to a cooperating witness, who was believed by Depina to be a fellow gang member. In March 2022, he sold approximately 60 grams of cocaine base, a 9-millimeter pistol, and 16 rounds of ammunition. A subsequent search of Depina's residence in April 2022 led to the seizure of more cocaine base and another firearm.

At the time of these offenses, Depina was on state probation following a 2018 conviction for possession with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl. Given this history, he was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

Several officials, including United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and representatives from agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Boston Police Department, announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Pohl and Charles Dell’Anno oversaw the case’s prosecution.

This prosecution was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative, which aims to dismantle high-level criminal organizations through collaborative, multi-agency efforts.

Other defendants named in the indictment are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
