A Honduran national, Manuel A. Padilla, has pleaded guilty in a Boston federal court to the charge of unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. The plea was entered on April 16, 2025, before U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, who set the sentencing date for June 18, 2025.

Padilla, aged 36, had previously been deported from the United States on two separate occasions. The first deportation occurred on March 15, 2010, and the second on June 28, 2013. According to the indictment, it was sometime after the 2013 deportation that Padilla reentered the country unlawfully. In February 2025, a federal grand jury indicted him on the charge.

The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien can result in severe penalties, including a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Upon completing any sentence imposed, Padilla will be subject to deportation. Sentencing will be guided by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and related statutes.

The case was announced by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley alongside Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sandra Gonzalez Sanchez and David G. Tobin of the Major Crimes Unit.
