Timothy M. O’Shea, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced the sentencing of Corey Hobbs, a 39-year-old from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Hobbs received a sentence of 110 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. He had pleaded guilty to the charge on January 7, 2025.
Hobbs engaged in methamphetamine sales to a confidential informant in November and December of 2023. On December 6, 2023, he carried out the largest transaction by selling 261.09 grams of methamphetamine to the informant. Authorities arrested Hobbs on December 31, 2023. A search of Hobbs and his vehicle revealed $10,610 in cash.
At the sentencing, Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson pointed to Hobbs's extensive criminal record, noting it showed a “sustained pattern of drug dealing.” Judge Peterson also underscored the significant amount of methamphetamine linked to Hobbs as relevant to the case.
The investigation leading to these charges involved the West Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jennifer Remington and Colleen Lennon.
