Two residents of York County pleaded guilty to charges related to child sexual abuse material and received prison sentences, as announced by Attorney General Alan Wilson. On April 15, Collin Patrick Taylor and David Alan Powell admitted to their respective charges before the Honorable David P. Caraker, Jr. in York County.
Taylor faced one count each of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Second Degree, which involves the distribution of such material, and Third Degree, related to possession. In April 2022, the York County Sheriff's Office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about uploads from a social media application, leading them to Taylor. Upon executing a search warrant at his residence, additional files were found on his electronic devices. Taylor was sentenced to seven years in prison, followed by three years of probation, along with sex offender counseling. He must register as a sex offender and agreed to forfeit his devices.
Meanwhile, Powell was convicted of one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree. The York County Sheriff's Office received a similar report in August 2023, linking uploads to Powell's home address. Following a search, the authorities discovered 1,200 additional files on his devices. His sentence includes five years in prison and two years of probation, with mandatory counseling and sex offender registration. Powell also agreed to forfeit his devices.
Both individuals' actions were identified through CyberTip reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, leading to investigations executed by local law enforcement.
