A man found with methamphetamine and marijuana in a stolen vehicle has been sentenced to 87 months in prison. U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. delivered the sentence on Wednesday in Cape Girardeau for the case involving a traffic stop on August 17, 2024. The incident occurred when Darryl Duane Jackson, now 23, was pulled over by a Charleston Police Department officer on Interstate 57 in Mississippi County, Missouri. The license plate of the vehicle he was driving matched one reported stolen.

Jackson, who is from Cairo, Illinois, was the driver and sole occupant of the car. During the stop, law enforcement discovered $1,670 in cash and a backpack containing 78 grams of marijuana along with 752 grams of methamphetamine, equating to more than 1.6 pounds.

Earlier this year, Jackson pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This marks Jackson's third felony conviction related to drug sale offenses.

The investigation was conducted by the Charleston Police Department in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Hunter.
